Great Yarmouth Steam Drifters Ltd


History:

The company was incorporated on 12th February 1902 by solicitor Harold CHAMBERLIN with a nominal Capital of 20000 pounds stirling, split into 6525 ordinary shares of 5 shillings each.   The Company Secretary was Albert E. LARK, Chartered Accountant

The auditor in 1903 was William Tacon FLOWER, Chartered Accountant, The manager was Robert S. GRAYSTONE, fishing boat manager of Burnt Lane, Gorleston.   By 1907 the shares had grown in number to 11230 in 1907 with more names added to the list of shareholders.

Among the company papers is a mortgage deed dated 22 August 1908 for 1000 pounds stirling and after debts of 8000 pounds were posted on 15th February 1920, a further mortgage, dated 12th March was raised from Barclays Bank secured on a piece of land on the South Denes consisting of 580 Square Yards.

A liquidator was appointed on 13 February 1924.   At an auction on March 12th the boats sold were:   Jack Salmon 2310 GBP, Thomas Beeching 1275 GBP, Herring Queen 750 GBP, Wensum 100 GBP.
There are lists of damage claims and other sundry items resulting in a total of 6157 pounds, 16 shillings & 8 pence on 10th October 1924.   Mr B. WALKER of 2 South Quay was the receiver.   The final account is dated 6th August 1925 and shows just how long the legal aspects took.
